Shelton's Cadena To Challenge DeLauro For 3rd District

SHELTON, Conn. – Angel Cadena Jr. of Shelton accepted the Republican Party’s nomination Monday to challenge U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro in the November election for Connecticut’s 3rd District, according to the Connecticut Mirror.

DeLauro also accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination to seek a 14th term in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Hartford Courant reported.

Cadena is a veteran of the Marine Corps who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has served as a veterans’ liaison for Linda McMahon’s 2012 U.S. Senate campaign, as a legislative intern in Hartford and as a candidate for state comptroller in 2014.

He was nominated in an uncontested race Monday night to run against DeLauro, the Connecticut Mirror reported.

DeLauro was also nominated in an uncontested race Monday, according to the Hartford Courant. She has represented the 3rd District since 1991. She said in a statement that she would focus on jobs in the race, particularly for the middle class, the Hartford Courant reported.
