Officers at the Greenwich Police Department received an emergency call from a concerned citizen of a driver in an Infinity that was driving on Route 8 (Danbury Road) and nearly striking other motorists.

An officer on patrol was able to track down the driver - later identified as Stamford resident Vasyl Kotsiuba - who was spotted crossing the white fog line and double yellow line into oncoming traffic. The officer was able to get Kotsiuba to stop near the intersection of Danbury Road and Wilton Acres and a traffic stop was initiated for his failure to maintain his lane of travel.

Police said that while speaking with the officer, Kotsiuba had alcohol on his breath and he failed multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Kotsiuba was placed under arrest for a DUI and refused to submit to chemical testing to establish his blood alcohol content.

Kotsiuba, 28, was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and cited for failure to drive in the proper lane. Following his arraignment, Kotsiuba was released on $260 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
