Air Quality Alert Issued As Temperature Rises In Stratford

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- An air quality alert has been issued for Fairfield County Monday as temperatures are expected to remain high over the next couple days.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection warns that ozone levels in the air on Monday could be unhealthy for sensitive groups such as active children and adults with respiratory diseases such as asthma. The ozone forecast could increase the likelihood of respiratory symptoms and breathing discomfort in these groups, and affected people should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Temperatures on Monday are expected to be warm, with a high near 91, according to the National Weather Service. Skies are expected to be sunny. Monday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 70.

Tuesday will see a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Otherwise the day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Tuesday night will see a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, but will be mostly cloudy. The low will be around 64.

The heat will back down a little bit on Wednesday, when the high is predicted to be near 78. The skies will be mostly sunny. Wednesday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 53.

Thursday is predicted to be sunny, with a high near 72. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 54.

Fairfield County could see some rain heading into the weekend. On Friday there is a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. The high during the day will be near 69. Friday night will see a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low around 58.
